If small and private is your jam, Douglas Beach is for you. Street parking is free, but limited to ten spots, because 95% of the beach is owned by private cottages that flank both side of this public beach. It feels like walking into a neighborhood and finding a small slice of heaven.

THE SUNSETS ARE SPECTACULAR

At the top of the hill, streetside, you’ll find a small but well-kept bathroom and hose for spraying off sandy feet. Be prepared for a couple flights of stairs on your way down the dune, but the brand new staircase with landing lookouts (or rest stops), makes the trek easy.

Douglas Beach is incredibly kid-friendly. At the top of the stairs, you’ll a “Community Basket” full of sand toys and floats for anyone’s use, because most the visitors to this beach have little ones in tow. Plus, the Lake Michigan shore along this area stays shallow for about 50 feet out into the water. It makes watching your kids swim a little less stressful.

Douglas Beach is a short drive from any of our Lakewood Lux properties, and I highly recommend a visit!
